Volker Schweikhard

Dr. Volker Schweikhard obtained a Ph.D in Physics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, developing optical manipulation techniques for ultra-cold quantum gases. He then shifted his focus toward research in the Life Sciences, investigating the process of gene transcription at the single-molecule level as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University, and researching the subcellular coordination of cytoskeletal networks and signaling cascades as a Research Assistant Professor in the Bioengineering Department at Rice University in Houston, TX.

With a background in optics, biophysics and cell biology, it is his passion to develop instruments and procedures to probe biological processes at the (sub-)cellular and tissue levels. At Leica Microsystems, he works with customers, collaboration partners and in-house R&D to drive innovation in nonlinear optical microscopy and multimodal imaging, including coherent Raman scattering microscopy (CARS, SRS), multi-photon fluorescence microscopy, and time-resolved imaging.
