Jan Neumann

Jan Neumann studied Physics at the University of Heidelberg, with focus on astronomy and environmental physics. He wrote his master thesis about the "Analysis of HER2 membrane protein clusters after treatment with Herceptin and Pertuzumab using localization microscopy", where he first came in contact with super-resolution microscopy.

After finishing his studies, he started his PhD thesis at the Max-Planck Institute for Chemistry (MPIC, AG Lucas) in Mainz, where his research focus lies on the localization of molecules involved in inflammatory processes using different fluorescence microscopy techniques (confocal laser scanning microscopy, single molecule localization microscopy, structured illumination microscopy etc.). The PhD thesis is in close cooperation with Prof. Cremer at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB), Mainz, where Jan Neumann also constructs a custom-built TIRF-based localization microscope for super-resolution imaging.
