Florian Hoff

Florian Hoff

Florian Hoff studied biology (BSc) and molecular and cellular biology (MSc) with majors in infection biology, developmental biology and clinical cell biology at the Philipps University of Marburg and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. In his bachelor thesis, supervised by Ralf Jacob at the Institute of Cytobiology and Cytopathology in Marburg he focused his studies on protein trafficking pathways. Here, he came into contact with sophisticated microscopes for the first time and was instantly fascinated by seeing what was happening inside of his cell cultures. Following a research visit at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg he prepared his master thesis in the group of Georg Seifert at the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Oncology and Hematology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. His thesis was dedicated to the pro-apoptotic effects of plant extracts in leukemia cells. At the moment he is finishing his PhD back in Ralf Jacob’s group in Marburg in affiliation with the DFG graduate school 1216 "Intra- and Intercellular Transport and Communication". He is investigating the role of a dynamin-related protein in intracellular protein transport with the help of different microscopy techniques, such as CLSM, super-resolution GSDIM microscopy and TIRF microscopy.
